Congratulations to three fifth grade student teams from Mize Elementary for receiving recognition for their inventions presented at the 2025 Kansas City Invention Convention (KCIC) on Friday, April 11. Educators and parents of award-winning Inventors were invited to a special awards ceremony on Monday, April 14.
- Meryn Marintzer, Aubrey Gulley and Medley Glapa won Second Place for the 5th and 6th grade category with their invention of the Slick Back Brush.
- Avery Gab and Creighton Wornkey won the T-Serve Technology Award in the 5th and 6th grade category for their invention of the Remote Finder.
- Alexandra Castro and Anna Deamos won Honorable Mention in the 5th and 6th grade category for their invention of the Safe Yet Stylish Swimsuit
- Mimi Leuszler, the Technology Teacher at Mize Elementary, also received the Outstanding Educator Award.
The Kansas City Invention Convention (KCIC) is a STEMIE (STEM + Invention + Entrepreneurship) competition and outreach program presented by the Linda Hall Library. KCIC teaches problem-solving and creativity to students in grades 5-12, while providing educators with a project-based curriculum to inspire the innovators of tomorrow.
This year’s KCIC event welcomed:
- 450 students
- 198 inventions
- from 28 schools
